On December 12, 2024, a celebration was held aboard the iconic Queen Mary to honor the accomplishments of outgoing Long Beach Councilman Al Austin of the 8th District, who was concluding his remarkable service to our community. This special reception was a unique opportunity to express our collective gratitude for his 12 years of tireless service and to celebrate his legacy. In attendance were over 150 influential community leaders, business owners, and residents.
Councilmember Austin has made significant contributions to this City:
- Established the Market Street Corridor Improvement Project.
- Revitalized the Bixby Knolls Small Business Shopping Center.
- Introduced the Police Oversight Director position.
- Established vital community hubs such as the African American Cultural Center, fostering cultural awareness and engagement.
- Championed environmental initiatives, leading to the creation of over 40 acres of new green space for residents to enjoy.
